Regarding the lack of first-person exploration the official response on the Kickstarter comments section was:

Too many different views is challenging. We’re really making an effort to streamline and be efficient with some of our design decisions.

Perhaps it is challenging, but not going that way is unfortunate, in my opinion. What people want most is a game that brings the Gold Box experience to modern technology, and part of that experience is the 1st-person exploration – switching to overhead view for combat.

Also consider that there is another game out there which is doing exactly this, on a fraction of the budget that SDS is seeking.

Thank you for the reply – I’m glad to hear it is still being considered!

I understand the situation isn’t as easy as the SSI days as far as access to these artists’ D&D work. I believe the three of them are independent now though so hopefully that makes for less legal hoops to jump through, at least for their post-TSR stuff. I imagine the main hurdle is financial, and if they have the time / desire to do the work.

Hoping there is way for this to work out! Even just a tentative agreement from one of the artists, contingent on the Kickstarter funding, would be very exciting.

ProphetSword is right – the Codex is the largest community of classic CRPG fans and I would wager they represent a large segment of your target audience. Take their feedback to heart, even if it’s sometimes hard to hear. I think your Kickstarter will improve as a result.

Also I’d recommend interacting on there and answering questions / responding to concerns people have. This goes a long way to garnering good will and enthusiasm for the project.
