I didn’t mind the Vancian Magic concept. But it is deeply flawed. It tended to remove choice, because you would never use any of the “other” spells because you couldn’t afford to waste a spell “slot”.

Indeed. Perhaps now would be a good time to remind your friends to back.
Just a quick note on pricing: a $15 price point is for a much shorter campaign than a $25+ price. So, we’ve planned on delivering a larger scope than you get with a smaller game.
No worries altho the comparisons I was using were not what I would call smaller games.
I’ll stop now you guys clearly thought about it before making the decision. As I said I hope you succeed, so was just concerned that you might not be getting the best bang for buck out of KS.
March 16, 2015 at 3:54 am in reply to: Possibility to get classic TSR artists involved? (Caldwell, Easley, Elmore?) #754I’d love to see that as well. The old D&D boxes held a special place in my heart.
Makes sense, but as an example, I balked immediately at $25. Whereas I have backed several games at $15 without even thinking about it. You get less per pop, but in theory you would get more pops.
Lets face it a large proportion of your target market are those of us who were fans of the Goldboxes back in the day.
My guess is that they are going to fall into 2 main camps. People with money to burn. Or people with mortgages, children and a limited gaming budget.
You are asking a price that is hard to justify as a company with no games yet, and relying on Nostalgia as your main selling point.
Wasteland 2, which had a similar pedigree in Nostalgia for the game was $15, Torment which had an arguably higher pedigree than WL2 was $20.
Anyway, just thought I would give you my 2c, as a potential backer(I am still struggling with whether I can justify $25 at the moment, as I get paid monthly), take it as you will, and I do hope you succeed. But If you don’t I hope you consider coming back to the KS format at a later date and at a lower rate.
It does sound interesting… looking forward to some more meat to the details
Thanks for the response. I’m glad you didn’t have more in game backer exclusive stuff. In my experience of kickstarters thus far they have met with almost total rejection by backers.
And as long as I am complaining 😉
$25 is high for the base game. Too late now. But I reckon a mark of $15 would have netted you more numbers.
Not happy about in game content exclusive to KS backers. Insulting idea, AND it will almost certainly be hacked almost immediately.
I have played Dead State and agree its system works well. BUT it is a very different style of game. With more “strategic” elements to it.
I think removing the emphasis from “combat” is not a bad idea. But how do you manage it. If there is no XP for combat at all then your combat oriented characters suffer. If you get equal XP for avoiding combat(diplomacy stealth etc), how do you then account for dealing with the same group multiple times?
How do you even define having avoided combat by stealth?Soooo…
I recently replayed PoolRad.
Something I noticed immediately was the interaction between the party and the Random Encounters.
You could Talk, run, fight, wait etc. Then in combat the baddies would often surrender or run when you were trouncing them.I am hoping that some of that depth of thought will make it into any future games. Have thoughts around that sort of “non combat” functionality made a return?
